Conscious Clothing - making sustainability a focus

One of the basic tenets of Shop Different is knowing the origin of the products that you purchase. This oftentimes takes a lot of effort and places trust in sources that may not have your best interests at heart. We spend a lot of time introducing vendors with the hope that your ability to connect directly to them will allow you to know exactly where raw materials are sourced from, how items are designed, and where they are made.

While having the ability to connect directly with an individual maker and meet them at a market is ideal, there are companies that are making their sustainable practices as a center part of their business. Conscious Clothing, located in Belmont, Michigan, is one such company. Conscious Clothing has been making clothing for 22 years and was started, like many small businesses, when founder Rose Phillips was unable to find organic clothing for her children. Rose, through substantial effort, was able to locate organic and sustainable sources for linen, cotton, and hemp to allow her to begin making the clothing that she was unable to find elsewhere.

The Katherine Vest is made from 100% cotton denim.

While we could tell the story about Conscious Clothing growing over the past 22 years, their focus on sustainability and transparency tell a better story. Visiting their website, you can read about the business’s story, design principles, and material options. Included on their page is an area dedicated to sustainability and includes decisions made on shipping materials and the commitment of Conscious Clothing to plant a tree for every order placed.

Head over to the Conscious Clothing website to read more on their story and make a purchase you can be sure is friendly to you and the environment.
