Mimeo Tableware - Elevate Every Meal
Having met hundreds of ceramic artists over the past five years, I am always amazed at the skill that goes into the creations using clay. Using different base clays, glazes, and styles, no two artists are alike. Those artists that stick out typically have a signature style that is immediately recognizable.
We first met Sarah of Mimeo Tableware around 18 months ago at a night market in Indianapolis. We were fortunate to be placed directly next to Sarah’s booth and had a nice evening talking and connecting as mutual friends also stopped by to visit. Despite being early in the time that Sarah chose to create Mimeo Tableware, she was accepted into a very competitive show, and it was immediately clear why! Sarah’s signature style was on clear display and has only strengthened since that day.
Sarah’s journey into ceramics began in art school but took an interesting turn when she accepted a position at a living history museum. While there, she spoke to hundreds of people every day explaining pottery while making it using time-appropriate equipment (in addition to time-appropriate clothing and language). Despite this being an unlikely beginning for a graduate art student and future full-time independent ceramic artist, Sarah found a passion for simple, utilitarian pottery and has grown that passion into her own style.
The shapes and colors displayed in Mimeo Tableware’s booth are the signature style that will draw you in. Sarah makes her own glazes from scratch, ensuring consistent colors that you won’t find elsewhere, and the consistency from piece to piece allows you to build a matching set of dinnerware. One of Sarah’s most popular pieces is the garlic jar (below). As with many artists, this design started as a product request that has become a mainstay in the Mimeo Tableware lineup and seamlessly blends functionality with beauty that is impossible to replicate outside of a handmade piece of art.
